In Idaho, you have the right to choose your repair shop, regardless of your insurance company’s recommendations.
Insurance companies may encourage you to use their DRP (Direct Repair Program) shops due to cost-saving agreements the two parties have in place, but the insurance company cannot mandate it. If you feel pressured, this is insurance steering, and it is illegal.
If you believe you’re being unfairly steered or coerced into using a DRP shop, reach out to the Idaho Department of Insurance’s Consumer Affairs section. They serve as a free, unbiased resource to help resolve disputes with insurance companies and provide guidance on insurance matters. You can:
